Death of Shahram Aivazzadeh, founder and first director of ISAT, researcher at the Drive laboratory

It is with deep sadness that the University has learned of the death of Shahram Aivazzadeh, Professor Emeritus at Université Bourgogne Europe. Renowned researcher at the DRIVE laboratory (Department of Research in Vehicle Engineering for the Environment) in Nevers, he headed the ‘Durability and Composite Structures’ (DSC) team, specialising in the study of the behaviour of composite materials in the field of transport. In 1991, he founded ISAT and became its first director until 2001.
His work focused in particular on the characterisation of composites in extreme environmental conditions, the mechanics of bonded assemblies, and the development of bio-sourced materials. The aim of this research was to improve the performance, reliability and durability of structures in the automotive, rail and urban sectors, while reducing their environmental impact.
Shahram Aivazzadeh also left a lasting mark on the history of the Institut Supérieur de l’Automobile et des Transports (ISAT), which he founded and directed from 1991 to 2001. Under his leadership, ISAT considerably strengthened its applied research activities, developing close synergies with the DRIVE laboratory. This collaboration has helped to make the school a benchmark centre for transport engineering.
Today, ISAT continues to build on this momentum by working closely with the DRIVE laboratory in areas such as materials durability, acoustics, vibrations, energy optimisation and intelligent transport systems.
Professor Aivazzadeh leaves behind a considerable scientific and educational legacy, as well as a community deeply marked by his commitment, rigour and vision of sustainable engineering.
