Presentation of SPARK, the joint research laboratory between UBE, SINTERMAT and Safran

Université Bourgogne Europe, SINTERMAT and Safran presented Sintering Pulsed to Advanced mateRials and Knowledge (SPARK), their joint research laboratory, on 1 July on Dijon campus. This joint laboratory will jointly explore the theme of ‘Development of innovative materials by Spark Plasma Sintering’.

On Tuesday 1 July, UBE, SINTERMAT and Safran presented their joint research laboratory at the Marey Institute in Dijon. This strategic alliance will enable research into innovative materials based on Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS), a ‘flash sintering’ technique that uses heat and electrical impulses to fuse powders into a dense solid material.

Vincent Thomas, President of UBE, Eric Dalbiès, Director of Strategy at Safran, Olivier Delcourt, Director of Materials and Processes at SAFRAN, Foad Naimi, President of Sintermat, and Frédéric Bernard, Head of the Calhipso platform, gave speeches on this alliance, which is of strategic interest not only to public research but also to the aerospace and defence industry.

In the morning, participants attended a presentation of the SPS process on the Calhipso experimental platform, housed within the ICB laboratory, followed by a presentation of the scientific programme of the future joint laboratory. The second part of the day was devoted to a visit to SINTERMAT in Venarey-les-Laumes.
