What is the purpose of scientific mediation?

Thursday, May 21 from 6pm to 8pm · Center of Taste Sciences · Dijon
To launch the 25th anniversary of the Experimentarium, this conference proposes to dive into the heart of practices that bring science and society closer. Much more than simple outreach activities, mediation practices can open unexplored doors: transforming our view of the inner workings of science, enriching scientists’ careers by providing them with ideas or remobilising them, or even create exciting associations between researchers and citizens. For two hours, speakers will share concrete experiences or their surprising experimental studies that show how mediation can feed research itself. A meeting that is meant to be inspiring for those who are interested in science, from near or far.
With:
- Frédéric Naudon, sociologist, University of Caen
- Clémentine Hugol-Gential, university professor, researcher in information and communication sciences, Université Bourgogne Europe, IUF member, junior chair in scientific mediation “eat connected”
- Léa Gruyer, researcher in information and communication sciences, Université Grenoble-Alpes
What has become of them? In 25 years, many researchers from all backgrounds have passed through the “Expérimentarium” to tell their stories and share their research during more than 20,000 workshops in sometimes unlikely places: woods, parks, museums and even on the farm!
For this anniversary evening, we bring back some «old people». They went through the United States, the Amazon rainforest, they dug deep into their subject or branched off to other destinations for which their experience at the “Expé” helped them. You will be able to discuss their past and present experiences during 6 mini-conferences.
You can also discover the current residents of the Expérimentarium network during speed searching sessions: 10 minutes of express meeting with a researcher around a table. 10 minutes to discover a research topic, the daily life of a researcher, what animates and fascinates him. At the ringing of the bell, we change tables and it’s a permanent surprise!
