The Shanghai Ranking confirms the global standing of Université Bourgogne Europe
Published on 15 August, the Shanghai Ranking is one of the most prestigious university rankings. Université Bourgogne Europe features in it for the 10th consecutive year, in the 701–800 bracket of the best universities listed. It is thus ranked amongst the top 5 per cent of universities worldwide, and 22nd nationally.
A major political endorsement
The 2026 ranking demonstrates that the Burgundy region is home to a world-class university, enabling it to make its mark and attract attention on the national, European and international stages. It confirms that the strategy championed by the entire academic community serves the region, with UBE at the forefront. The 2026 ranking reinforces UBE’s scientific standing and attests to the considerable work carried out by a university community of the very highest calibre.
A strengthened collective dynamic
Maintaining our position amongst the top 5 per cent of universities worldwide requires us to continue the organisational work begun in 2025 by all members of the Experimental Public Institution (EPE) – the Dijon National School of Art and Design, the Burgundy-Franche-Comté Higher School of Music, ESAAB, BSB (Burgundy School of Business), Dijon Burgundy University Hospital, CGFL – Centre Georges-François Leclerc, CESI, ESTP – Grande École d’Ingénieurs de la Construction, Eseo, Sciences Po Dijon Campus, Crous Bourgogne-Franche-Comté), notably through the roll-out of a shared scientific identity and growing success in European research projects.
UBE’s ranking is also the result of a strong partnership with national research organisations such as the CNRS, INRAE, Inserm and the CEA, whose staff are key contributors to UBE’s laboratories.
Finally, this academic recognition reinforces UBE’s decision to place FORTHEM at the heart of its international strategy, which takes the form of close partnerships with the members of this European Alliance (Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, University of Agder, Latvijas Universitate, Uniwersytet Opolski, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, University of Jyväskylä, Università degli studi di Palermo and Universitat de València), some of which also feature prominently in the Shanghai Ranking.
Globally recognised excellence
Specialising in the analysis of institutions’ research potential, the Shanghai Ranking* identifies 1,000 universities from among the 18,000 listed worldwide, including just 27 of France’s 75 universities. UBE is thus among the top 5 per cent of universities.
Université Bourgogne Europe would like to thank its partners and all its staff, who, day in, day out, contribute their talents to the university’s development.
*The Shanghai Ranking (Academic Ranking of World Universities – ARWU) assesses universities according to six criteria: the number of Nobel Prize winners and Fields Medalists amongst alumni and current staff; the number of most-cited researchers; the number of publications in *Nature* and *Science*; the number of publications indexed in the Science Citation Index-Expanded and the Social Science Citation Index; and academic performance relative to the size of the institution.
