Launch of the i-NanoT project: towards a regional nanomedicine sector
On Tuesday, 2 December 2025, the University of Burgundy Europe hosted the official launch of the i-NanoT project at the Grand Amphitheatre of Polytech Dijon. This project, dedicated to theranostic nanomedicine, brings together academic, industrial and hospital stakeholders from the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region and aims to transform the treatment of certain pathologies, particularly cancers, as well as infectious and inflammatory diseases.
A consortium dedicated to research and innovation
i-NanoT is based on the development of theranostic nanovectors, nanoparticles capable of simultaneously diagnosing and treating a disease, thus offering precise and effective targeting. The launch was an opportunity to present the scientific and technological challenges of the project, with presentations by Alexandre Bouhelier, project coordinator, Jérôme Durain, president of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Region, Vincent Thomas, president of the UBE, as well as Carsten Rasmussen, head of the Belgium, France and Luxembourg unit, France and Luxembourg, DR REGIO at the European Commission, and Jérémy Paris, CEO of the DeepTech start-up SON.
The morning also featured a plenary lecture by Patrick Couvreur, Professor Emeritus at Paris-Saclay University, on the evolution of nanomedicines for the treatment of serious diseases, followed by a round table discussion bringing together researchers and industry representatives on the current state of play and prospects for theranostic vectorisation.
Development of a regional industry and economic benefits
The i-NanoT project aims to establish a regional nanomedicine sector by 2030, from the laboratory to a pilot unit (kilo-lab) for larger-scale production prior to industrialisation. The expected benefits include:
- Creation of approximately 100 jobs in the region,
- Strengthening the range of university courses, particularly at Master’s level,
- Economic growth for partner companies, estimated at +30% in turnover,
- Scientific and medical influence through publications, conferences and innovations in personalised medicine.
- Strengthening synergies between industrial players and public research laboratories.
The project involves three innovative companies, six research laboratories, two healthcare institutions and two support structures, with a total budget of €18.4 million, of which €15.6 million is funded by the Horizon Europe programme.
A regional and European ambition
i-NanoT represents a major step forward for Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in the field of nanomedicine. By structuring an integrated ecosystem, the project is helping to position the region as a leading player at national and European level, promoting scientific innovation and the industrialisation of new personalised therapies.
