MP Benjamin DIRX visits Le Creusot university campus

On 19 May, Benjamin DIRX, Member of the French Parliament, went to Le Creusot university campus, at Université Bourgogne Europe’s Centre Universitaire Condorcet for a discussion with the teachers and students of the STAPS course.

As part of a mission entrusted to him by the Prime Minister, the MP will have to submit a series of proposals by the end of July to strengthen the place of sport in the French society.

Before submitting his report, he will be holding hearings with around a hundred people involved in sport across France. His discussion with the STAPS bachelor course at Le Creusot was all the more symbolic given that Benjamin Dirx himself began his university career in this course at the end of the 1990s.

The former student was warmly welcomed by the teaching staff, and spent over two hours talking to students and lecturers from the university. He was able to give his thoughts on the democratisation of sport, the funding of sports policies and the links between schools and sports clubs.

For the students present, the discussion was an opportunity to broaden their view of sport, and to consider a number of national policy issues: the fight against sedentary lifestyles, social cohesion, regional attractiveness, etc.
