UBE awards the 2025 Secularism Prize to Alain Chouraqui
As part of National Secularism Day on Tuesday 9 December, Université Bourgogne Europe was a partner in the event organised by Dijon, Ville et Métropole. In 2025, this day organised by Dijon, Ville et Métropole in partnership with the Observatoire régional de la Laïcité- Bourgogne Franche-Comté (ORL) will take on a special significance, marking the 120th anniversary of the 1905 law.
Vincent Thomas, President of Université Bourgogne Europe and Secularism Advisor at France Universités, participated in the round table discussion ‘Secularism: the foundation of the Republic and guarantor of social and national cohesion.’ He also presented the 2025 Secularism Award to Odile Boyer, deputy director of the Fondation du Camp des Milles, representing Alain Chouraqui, its founding president.
The 2025 Secularism Award honours exemplary civic initiatives, such as the actions and work carried out by Alain Chouraqui throughout his career.
On Thursday 16 October, he spoke at UBE for the Secularism and Tolerance Day organised each year by the university. During a conference on the theme of ‘Democracy and Tolerance,’ he discussed the different ways in which history can alert democracy, through the courage of memory, scientific research approaches, and tools such as the Republican and Democratic Analysis and Alert Index (AARD).
True to its values of secularism, UBE is delighted to have welcomed Alain Chouraqui this year and to have been able to present this award at this place of remembrance.
