Workshop in Palermo: Connections between ancient and contemporary: Fiumara d’arte’s sculpture park, a heritage and a territory to be preserved

In collaboration with the FORTHEM laboratory ‘Art and Aesthetics in Contemporary Society’ and the Department of Architecture, students from the University of Palermo are organising a workshop devoted to the Fiumara d’Arte sculpture park and the risks it is currently facing. Targeted at bachelor’s and master’s students, the workshop will take place at Fiumara d’Arte, in Sicily, from 21 to 27 September 2025.
The aim of the workshop is to promote and preserve the Fiumara d’Arte park, by bridging memories of the past with visions for the future, and by sharing the experience with the local community.
Programme highlights:
- Guided walks through the park’s artworks with artist Antonio Presti.
- Meetings with local artisans, sharing both tangible and intangible traditional knowledge.
- Discussion and reflection sessions on art, landscape, and memory.
- Lectures on land art, landscape aesthetics, and performative practices.
- Group work to produce audiovisual materials and proposals for enhancing the site.
- Visit of the archaeological site of Halaesa Arconidea, fostering a dialogue between contemporary art and ancient heritage.
- Final presentation open to project partners (Presti Foundation, Archaeological Park, local authorities, associations, and residents).
Selected students will be eligible for a mobility grant.
