Université Bourgogne Europe launches the BIOMIND thematic research unit through a multidisciplinary symposium.

On April 30, 2026, Université Bourgogne Europe held the inaugural symposium of the BIOMIND unit (BIOMolecules and INterdisciplinarity) at the Claude Bernard Amphitheatre, within the Faculty of Science and Technology Mirande. This event marked a key milestone in the establishment of this new interdisciplinary research cluster.

BIOMIND brings together expertise from a wide range of disciplines—from physics and chemistry to medicine, as well as agroecology, food and taste sciences, and biogeosciences—with a shared objective: to better understand and harness the potential of biomolecules.

The day featured 19 scientific presentations and 9 research talks delivered by PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers from seven laboratories (ICB, ICMUB, PAM, CTM, Agroécologie, CSGA and Biogéosciences). These contributions highlighted the diversity of approaches and the strength of collaborative research within the unit.

Structured around three main pillars—origin and production of biomolecules, characterization and modeling, and applications—BIOMIND pursues ambitious goals. These include strengthening international collaborations, increasing the clinical impact of research, developing innovative approaches in artificial intelligence applied to health, and training the next generation of scientists.

Through these initiatives, BIOMIND aims to actively address major societal challenges, particularly in public health, ecological transition, and health sovereignty. This inaugural symposium therefore represents the starting point of a dynamic and ambitious scientific initiative, fostering interdisciplinary, responsible, and socially engaged research.
